Nicole McDermott

Associate Lawyer

Nicole graduated summa cum laude from McMaster University in 2017 from the prestigious Justice, Political Philosophy and Law program with a minor degree in French. With a strong passion for the law already instilled within her, she then attended the University of Ottawa’s Common Law program where she obtained her Juris Doctorate degree in 2021.

During her time at the University of Ottawa, Nicole focused her studies on human rights, social justice and criminal litigation. She nurtured her strong desire to help the most vulnerable members of our society who have been negatively impacted by the structural and systemic barriers of our criminal justice system. She spent her first-year summer working in criminal defence as a legal intern at Daniel Brown Law in Toronto, and her second-year summer as a student at Collett Read LLP. In her final year, Nicole also worked for the Criminalization and Punishment Education Project’s Jail Accountability and Information Line, where she worked closely with those incarcerated at the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre to advocate for their human rights and assist them with barriers to re-entry into the community.

Collett Read was excited to welcome Nicole back as an Associate to continue her work and learning alongside our talented team of lawyers.
