Olivia Crooks

2L Summer Student

Olivia is originally from Nova Scotia and graduated from Acadia University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. During her undergraduate studies, she developed a strong interest in forensic and pathogenic microbiology. This interest led her to complete an Honours Thesis examining Eastern Hemlock-associated macrofungal diversity at Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site and the ecological impacts of the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid.

Olivia is entering her final year at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University. Throughout her first two years of law school, she has been actively involved in numerous organizations and programs that have further strengthened her passion for criminal law and access to justice. She continues to volunteer with the Pro Bono Dalhousie Youth Legal Education Society – Consent Project, Dalhousie Legal Aid Service, and the East Coast Prison Justice Society. She also serves as a peer educator with the Indigenous Blacks & Mi’kmaq Initiative.

Olivia is currently working as a 2L summer law student at Collett Read LLP, where she has gained valuable experience in criminal defence work and advocacy. She is excited to continue developing her litigation skills, deepen her understanding of criminal law, and pursue opportunities to advocate for clients and underserved communities throughout her legal career.
